I suppose the subject says it all... I'm glad Pat reminded me of hiding places. I *knew* that I should check for hiding places, but I thought I'd checked all the possible ones. This time I checked a couple *IM*possible ones... I should have guessed that a cat might find a way into an impossible situation. There she was, in the enclosure that surrounds the utility meters, on a bar about an inch wide, trying to stay dry. I'm glad it wasn't raining harder today; if the lower part of the enclosure had flooded, the least that would have happened is a cold, wet kitty, and I'm going to ignore the worst case scenario.

Thank you to everyone who responded; I might respond to each of you, but *damn* I'm emotionally drained right now.

Well, believe it or not, once I realized that the door had been left open, the only thing that really bothered me about the break-in was the audacity. I figured that it has to be a kid, or a teenager, who doesn't realize that some long hair loon might kill him. (Not that I would kill someone, but only an idiot (or a young person, still believing in personal immortality) would assume that it's safe to break into an occupied apartment.)

I must admit, I do have visions of starting to guard my unlocked front door from about 4:00 a.m. until I have to leave for work, and, the minute that door opens, prepare to kick the door-opener's ass until it settles between their shoulder blades.
