Is Monster.com still top of the heap? Or are there other places I should be looking?

My ex-manager decided to get rid of me, and I have a mortgage to pay, so I have to start moving.

Indeed.com--it's an aggregator.

I've had my best luck with a recruiter I have a relationship with.

I'm REALLY sorry about this, John.

Don't rule out LinkedIn, either. Also, there's a place I just read about called Quora. The article I read was 12 ways to use Quora to find a job. I'll see if I can find the link later.

Well, I'm sorry it happened too, but reading my last review, I feel vindicated.

My manager "hasn't seen" me forging the kinds of relationships that are oh-so-necessary for a successful engineer. But that's ridiculous; he hasn't *seen* anything but the four walls of his office. He also hasn't *asked*. He's certainly not making his observation based upon anything grounded in reality!

He's either completely clueless, or a bully. And neither of those speak poorly of me. In fact, to be pointlessly fired by a bully is a bit of a compliment... he knows damn well he couldn't break me.

I haven't been fired, but I had a similar experience with a manager who was intimidated by me, and I agree with you, that it is a compliment. In a way.

Quora is a place where you ask and answer questions, so it's a type of networking effort, not a place to publish a resume or find job openings.

well, I can't chime in on job search, but have passed on your news to hubby, so maybe he'll be able to chime in, but *hugs*

Thanks. It's stressful, but a kind of a relief. And, hey, now I have some time to recover from my sciatica!

All I have to do now is get a job, and soon my ex-manager's name will become a joke in the industry. "He was concerned about your *people skills*? What *planet* was he *from*?"

Oh man. I'm sorry.

I had best results from pinging folks I know on LinkedIn, and using indeed.com to aggregate (though you have to sift through a lot of cruft).

Recently firecat posted a need for someone to write course materials and I think it was SQL. Might check her LJ for the post.

Best of luck on this!

I'm... having a hard time being sorry. I don't like it - the paycheck *was* awfully nice. And having to find a new job? Blech. But, much though I may regret these words someday, it feels like this is the next step.

I've got 5 weeks of pay, unemployment, and my tax return. I've got good stuff on my resume, and I'm very low on indebtedness. And any decent manager would love to have someone like me on their team.

Crud, but I'm sure you'll find something better soon and then can laugh at ex-manager. Loudly.

I do plan on letting people know what his problems were. I think that'll be the biggest laugh of the day.

Oh, for fleep's sake.

Good luck with the job hunt (I have no clue how to do that, anymore; I've only applied for one job in the last 17 years, and that was internal to my department). And good thoughts toward healing and being pain-free.

Yeah... it was a surprise, but it was surprisingly painless. His comments show his managerial style. He's kind of a hands-off manager, by which I mean, he doesn't tell you anything until it's review time, and then he throws a pile of deficiencies at you.

It was a good lesson in life. Now it's time to move on to the next.

I was told once, by a very good manager, that there should be no surprises, whatsoever, in a performance review. If there are, it's a sign of a poor manager. Feedback should be ongoing, not held and reserved for once per year.

She was an excellent manager. I respected the hell out of her.

Sorry to hear this has happened to you. Wishing you massive amounts of luck in finding not only another job, but a good job.

Chuckle. Not only should there be no surprises at review time, but if there *have* to be, they should be things based in reality :-). His latest review is that I'm not spreading my knowledge, and broadening the people I'm working with. Which is patently false. But, of course, he's been waiting for this for a long time.

I get more hits from CareerBuilder than Monster. I hate CareerBuilder's interface, but it does work. Also, LinkedIn

*smooch* Thanks for calling; I don't always get to read LJ every day, and I'd have *hated* finding this out days later.

All things considered, I'm counting on this being a "he who laughs last, laughs best" situation. Or perhaps "living well is the best revenge."

There was no way that guy was ever going to respect you, and no way you were ever going to be happy working for him, given the crap he's pulled.

I still think it would be awesome if you found yourself working for some Important Microsoft Client, and one day wound up being the person calling him and demanding good service.
