New updates on LongHairedWeirdo. The latest one was something that hit me on the way home from work. I think I know how Bush is picking his justices; I think he's picking them based upon his confidence in their rulings on his policies in the war on terror.

Maybe to protect his powers; maybe to protect his pals.

I hope I'm wrong about that.

While that was my fear when he was elected, I've come to think that GWB's personal beliefs about things like abortion aren't really all that deep. I've begun to believe that he's been paying lip service to the radical right's social agenda, first to get elected and then to get them to support his real goals: the war in Iraq, the (apparently failed) dismantling of social security, pro-business tax legislation amd as John suggests, the war on terror. Those are not necessarily causes the Christian extremist camp would have cared about or got behind.

If he really cared about overturning Roe v. Wade, I think he'd appointed other people to the Supreme Court. Considering who he's chosen, I'm beginning to suspect the appointments are much less about social issues and much more about trying to protect what he sees as his "legacy" from being dismantled by the court.

The scary thing is that, in the long run, the real Bush agenda may prove even worse for the country than the agenda we good liberals have been worrying about.

You know, you may be on to somethin there. I have a funny feeling too that what you say is maybe alot more important to him than abortion. Personally I think no one REALLY cares all that much about abortion - other than as a hotbutton issue. Bush and Co. just wanna make MONEY for all themselves and friends. It's always about the all-mighty dollar if you ask me - or it seems that way.
