Nov. 4th, 2004 07:34 pmPeople who think that the current leadership of the Republican party are decent and honorable people might want to skip this.
Congratulations.
You did it.
The politics of division worked. Liberals are pro-gay, pro-abortion, anti-god, anti-religion, and want Saddam Hussein in power.
With a pack of lies, the weapons of hatred, and a complete lack of honor, you've created an illusion that you own the country, yet for all of that, you just barely gained your majority.
Revel in it. Because you ain't got long.
Yes, people are far apart, so it's easy to see them as the outsider, the enemy.
It's easy to get people rally around you by fighting a war, winning political capital at the cost of human lives, civilian and soldier, American and Iraqi.
It's easy to tell lie after lie, thinking the truth will never come out.
But never forget the spirit. The spirit of humanity, which howls under the needless deaths you've caused with your bumbling and arrogance in Iraq. The spirit of honor, which screams at the lies you've told, and the decent people you've tarnished. And the spirit of love, which cries at the divisions you attempt to sow.
Some of us hear those spirits, loudly and truly. Some of us will teach others to hear; others will echo the pains of the spirit in song, in writing, or speech; some of us will weave those spirits around all who stand by us.
It is not merely the people you've attacked who you face. It is not merely the spirits that you have offended that you face. It is also the demon you yourselves have summoned. And as we craft the mirror that reveals that demon to the world, you will be fighting against truth, honor, and decency with the weapons of lies and hatred.
And you *will* lose.
Congratulations.
