And now I have to make some kind of joke about "if you misremember 'Blue Moon'? How do you do that?" which would be doubly strange given the entire point of my post :-).
Considering that my last attempt to Google seriously obscure lyrics to a song I have not heard since the early '70s failed, but my previous try succeeded, and since I now have a "Blue Moon" earworm (the Flamingos version), you're probably right.
Happy Birthday to you! Whenever you posted that. My use of LJ is still totally fubar. I just looked up the lyrics to a song about a dead cat, done in Australia. "somebody's moggy by the side of the road." Bingo.
Another one in the same vein (pop standard ballads embellished with doo-wop syllables, intended as perfectly serious performances) was I Only Have Eyes For You. There were also quite a few parodies of the old doo-wop songs, once they'd gotten old enough to be parodied... including (but not limited to)Who Put The Bomp (In The Bomp-Sh-Bomp-Sh-Bomp) and anything by Showaddywaddy or Sha Na Na :-)
Nod. What made this most memorable for me was that I'd heard Blue Moon as a youngish child, when most adult songs were stupid, with a few exceptions like You Talk Too Much or What's New Pussycat.
This was another dumb old grownup song about something really stupid but it would suddenly break out in this glorious burst of nonsense syllables, so that made it a lot of fun.
And then, when watching the movie Blade during the rave scene, there was something similar being played, which I suspect was the Kid Rock song (Bawitdaba...), but re-anchored the song in my mind.
I've never seen the movie, and the only reason I've heard of Kid Rock is because he did a duet with Willie Nelson once, but I do think that's a remake of a remake of the doo-wop "Blue Moon".

There may be yet another song but Blue Moon matches my memories relatively closely.
