Anyone need a desktop computer?
Jun. 9th, 2014 02:06 pmHey, there. Does anyone on my friends list *need* a desktop computer? Like, yours is held together with spit and bailing wire, and you don't know how you'd replace it if it went belly up?
I just realized I have 5 functioning PCs in my home - my one tiny MacMini-superior (http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/nuc/overview.html - okay, no optical drive, but much cheaper, and actually *smaller*) which I use to drive my TV, my not-quite-useless laptop which I used to use for gaming dates in Oregon, my main desktop (6 core AMD with decent graphics, a 240 gig SSD, and - huh, only 1 tb of hard drive, and 16 gig of ram, what's up with that?), and two other fully built out machines. Not, you know, *great* machines, but they were good once.
And I'd like to see if I can find a home for one, or maybe two.
(And alternately, if you need help rebuilding or repairing a PC, feel free to let me know. It's surprisingly easy - even I can do it.)
If anyone is also kinda-sorta wanting one, but can't cop to needing one, feel free to let me know, too. If no one's in need, well, I'd hate to just have these sit around and then get recycled.

Date: 2014-06-10 01:44 am (UTC)This one *works* just fine - but it was new in 2006, runs XP, and really isn't updateable (is that a word) to Win7. So if you've got somethign to spare that has Win7 on it, I'd be grateful... (I don't want Win8, any more than I would ever have anything to do with Vista; that whole alternate-OSes from Microsoft being... less than good... thing.)
(If someone else - or more than one someone else - is in more dire need, put them ahead of me, because this one does work, it's just kinda old and creaky. Display is still fine, printer(s) ditto (first one won't feed paper, so I have a really cheap printing only one for that, use other as scanner...)

Because what I have will probably be good for that for several years. I have some other components where, if you said that you gamed, I'd swap them out (so it would be a decent gaming rig as well).

Date: 2014-06-26 08:12 pm (UTC)Oh, and MS Access, for the not-updated-in-far-too-long book database. (Confession: Office 2000. Hey, why update when what I have works? *very wry*)
also... oh, thank you thank you
Can feed you and send you home with bookmarks... :)
