Dysthymia can be subtle and suck a lot of happiness out of life without your realizing it.

St. Johns Wort has been shown to be effective for mild (and sometimes more than mild) depression, and it's been having a good effect on me. No prescription is needed, and it's relatively inexpensive.

As always, if you can, see a doctor - rule out stuff like low thyroid, anemia, and a host of other issues that can also suck all the joy out of life.

However, don't depend on St. John's Wort if you are on birth control pills. It will get rid of your depression but it will cancel out the effectiveness of the pill.

Thank you, darlin', and yes, that's very important.

And, of course, after a pause to let the importance sink in... OMG! I haven't menstruated in two months!

I wouldn't worry, but I heard this woman ask another "how could you go and get yourself pregnant, girl?" and I didn't *know* you could get *yourself* pregnant!

St. John's Wort also interacts with a whole lot of other medications, including medications for heart conditions, epilepsy and anti-coagulants.

I'm glad it's having a good effect on you -- I've heard good things.
