Well, it's starting to look settled. Chris and I are almost certainly moving to Seattle, barring any incredible breakdowns in the way things should go.

If this seems sudden from looking in my journal, well, I've been bad about keeping up in my journal - just like I've been bad about a lot of things - but it *IS* pretty sudden. Monday, November 5th, the announcment was made: the GHOST was being broken down into a group of four people to provide redundancy for WCTS in case of power failures, phone problems, etc.. We had until the close of business on the 14th to announce if we want to transfer to a data center (they have severe staffing shortages at the data centers) or take severance.

I've never managed to mount an effective job hunt this time around. However, browsing Monster.com usually takes about ten minutes to find new postings that mostly don't apply to me. Lucent has dumped a lot of tech workers into the market. My job experience, if I am honest, was crappy, and my MCSE is worth about $.10/12 in the marketplace right now. 6 weeks severance, 2 weeks vacation, and an uncertainty about the market and my own mental health means it's probably best to take the bird in the hand, rather than the possibly skinnier and scrawnier bird that might be in the bush. (I know, it's "a bird in the hand is worth TWO in the bush..." but the second one was downsized last month, and is reduced to begging work-for-lliving space in a couple of cuckoo clocks.)

I'm not sure how I'm feeling; my brain is doing funny things. However, yesterday, I did start studying my Visual Basic again (for the class I'm taking), so I'm coming out of my shell a little bit. But... wow, there's a *LOT* of stuff to think about, and I think it's blowing my mind away.

Welcome to Seatle

...as long as you can take the weather. :) Everyone I know who didn't like it says they loved the city but couldn't handle gray winters. I don't know if this is because they are unfamiliar with shoveling snow or not... when I lived in N. California I didn't miss winter much, but I *did* miss fall and spring.

I hope everything goes smoothly for you.
