I hope it's not necessary...
Feb. 24th, 2004 08:48 amI've seen several places where it's been said that Democrats are 'nervous' about gay marriage.
Now, there have been several descriptions I've siezed for myself. "Man" is one of them, and "masculinist" is another. "Warrior" is one that I've striven for, and though I'm getting past my prime to fight on physical battlefields, that's never been my strongest field of battle, anyway. The world needs people who will battle for the body... but it also needs people who will battle for spirit.
Now, all you Democrats who are "nervous" about the issue, I've got a message for you.
When you're getting ready to dress for battle, you might be scared. You might joke with yourself about the benefit of wide availability of incontinence products for adults, because you're practically pissing yourself in fear that hatred will rise up and win the day.
But, when the battle is being joined, it's time to stand up, set aside your fears, and do what needs to be done.
It's time to say "I will fight, and I will win." It's time to stare the enemy in the eye, unflinchingly, and say "You're going down." It's time to let yourself think - but *never* admit out loud - that if you don't win, you're going to make sure those assholes know they've been in a fight. It's time to say "I won't stop until I'm bleeding from a thousand wounds, and if I am, I'm going to drown them in my blood before I die."
Yeah... the odds are probably stacked against us. Yeah, the forces of hate, anger, and intolerance, are powerful, organized, and frightening.
But we won't make them any weaker by showing them fear.
It's time to make a stand.
It's time to refuse to back down.
It's time to take back the issue.
It's time to remind people that we're fighting for love.
It's time to remind people the crap gay people have put up with, all because they fall in love with people that society doesn't want them to love.
It may be time to be nervous, as well... but it's not the time to let anyone else know that.
Evil senses fear, and uses it.
We will fight, and we will win... because there is no honorable alternative.
