Benefits to a mid-week move...
Mar. 28th, 2010 09:42 amThis weekend is my last weekend in the apartment, and Saturday, I realized there was a great benefit to this. Suddenly, when I looked around and thought "what will I really *need* here?" I suddenly realized that the scope of the question had gotten much smaller. What will I really need here - this weekend, and Monday and Tuesday of next week. (.? No, !) (In fact, !!!!!!!!!!!!)
Wonderfully focusing thought, really, and truly. I'd started to get a bit nervous about packing up, because I wasn't yet doing the "oh, crap, I forgot that I packed that!" bit every few hours. Now I realized that, okay, it's a good thing that I'm not doing that, but it's time that I started thinking about why I'm not doing that.
I have two pilsner glasses for beer (sometimes, you just gotta drink beer out of the right glass!)... am I really going to need those hanging around? More specifically, am I going to drink any more beer in this particular apartment?
I have four or five spatulas - is it really worth the trouble of not cleaning a single spatula between uses? Do I really want to find that, Tuesday night, I have to run a full dishwasher load?
In fact, isn't it pretty much time that I accept that I'm done cooking here, and it's time to start living on takeout and easy-to-prep veggies?
I still have my flippin' coffee roaster - why not roast my remaining coffee and move that?
GAH! I have a monitor that's just sitting around, not being used - talk about something easy to break that I can transport myself!
I have two or three computer games hanging around - is there some reason I can't just man up and accept that, oh noes, I can't play those particular computer games for *three whole days*?
So, today, I try to make sure that I get to live on takeout and veggies tomorrow and Tuesday, and try very hard to get to the "Oh, right, I packed that" stage. Do this right, and Wednesday might even be stressfree reduced.
