Okay. It looks like one or more of my LiveJournal entries may have been sent to the bit bucket, instead of live journal. I'll have to double and triple check this one.

Ah, news...

Sometimes Worldcom reminds me of Dilbert's company. One that's come to mind recently has been the cartoon where the PHB stated that they realized they were wrong, employees weren't their most valuable asset, money was. Employees were tenth. Wally mentions being afraid to ask what was ninth, and the boss chimes in with "Carbon paper!"

Since this is my live journal, I can freely point out (just in case anyone misses the joke) that carbon paper will likely end up not being produced at some point in the near future due to the the advent of word processing, email, cheap laser printers, and photocopying.

If anyone doesn't get the point of that digression, it's that I end up missing a lot of things and wish someone had told them to me. Of course, first I'd have to know that there's something to know, and they'd have to recognize that I don't know it.

Okay, but you all probably don't care about that. When you see the name John Palmer, you probably think "Oh, yeah, that poor sod that's moving to Seattle". Yeah, at one point it was probably "that lucky stiff getting an all-expenses paid trip to Seattle", and that might still happen. But, as of right now, Worldcom has given me an extremely tight schedule to get moving done, to the point that I won't even be present to find out if the full service moving company will be affordable or not. I'll have to already be on the road to Seattle.

If all goes well, the fact that everything is already boxed (well, not *EVERYTHING*, but nearly everything), and the fact that we don't have any major appliances and relatively little furniture will mean that the cost will come in under the magic number of $3500, which leaves plenty of money for paying us mileage and motels and meals. I'm counting on the mileage costs, because that will be what pays for mutliple things in Kent (the data center, and my apartment, are actually in Kent, not in Seattle. Seattle's the nearest place that anyone cares about, hence, it gets referred to as Seattle.) Things like the furniture we're throwing out, a second light box, etc..

Anyway... timing is really the big problem right now. I was hoping to make a trip back east to see family and friends, and that seems quite thoroughly nixed right now. There just isn't time... not with the other things that still need to be done here and the fact that we still don't know how things will get moved. Plus... well, driving to Philly is 8 hours minimum... and that means 16 hours of time between now and Tuesday gone, and I just honestly can't handle that.

Ah well... it's time for me to think about going to bed. g'night, all.
