Does anyone out there need an 80 gig USB hard drive in the shape of an iPod?

Seriously, that's about all it's good for. I spilled coffee on it and it ruined the clickwheel. You can press the 'play/pause' button a dozen or more times before it registers, and it often runs out of battery power because it's equally hard to turn off, and it doesn't always shut down due to idle time.

Preference given to electronics geeks who could actually repair the thing (or who have other methods of controlling it) and use it other than as an external hard drive.

It'll probably be sent via USPS (unless you can pick it up) and I promise to bubble wrap it, but there's no guarantees it'll arrive in still-working condition. But, it's survived a bit of bouncing (while wrapped in a silicone jacket) in the past.

Sounds like it could be entertaining to poke at (and I'd have half a chance of repairing it, I think). I don't want to call dibs if there's someone that particularly wants it, but I'd be happy to give it a home on my things-to-poke-at stack if there aren't enthusiastic other takers. :)

Maybe a smaller Mac could use it as a Time Machine backup drive.

I'd like it if nobody else does. We have a set of iPod speakers that have their own remote control. We were already using that setup to control an old 40 gig iPod that's suffering from the exact same problem, but the old thing decided to quit working altogether a couple weeks ago.

Not that the clickwheel was broken due to a spill; I think it was just advanced old age. It was six years old. In "iPod years" that's what, 250?

Do your speakers provide charge, as well? I'm guessing they do, since they supply control, but I want to verify. I'd still be willing to give it to you if they didn't, but, remember, it doesn't always shut down when idle, and I'd hate to have it end up that you have to plan your iPod playing 2-4 hours in advance so you could get it charged.

Yep, they plug into the wall and charge the iPod.

Just to clarify things for [livejournal.com profile] johnpalmer, sounds like you've got notably more use for it than I do, so I'd say it should go to you rather than me. :)

Thanks, I appreciate it. It'll put off having to replace the old one, which is really helpful.

One thing... I'm damned if I can remember your last name. And, if the address gets munged, I might need that.

Gads. At long last, after many false starts (including realizing that I'd written the wrong state on the envelope - MD instead of MI), it's in the mail with two day delivery. So, today or tomorrow (mailed on Saturday, with a 3pm pickup).

I sent the iPod, the USB cord, my Speck case along with the little screen protector. I didn't include the earbuds, because I use them as my travel earphones, but if you ask for them, I'll mail them out.
