Last weekend, I was going to go see the Narnia movie, until I realized that it was frigging *2.33 hours long!*. Most movies come in under two hours, you see... and I wasn't sure I was willing to commit so much time of my life to a movie that might not be worth it to see on the big screen.

The new Hulk movie is out too, and as a superhero comic book fan, I should go see it. But maybe that should wait for DVD as well.

Anyone have any suggestions? Go out in the world, or stay at home?

Hm. Maybe I'll finally rent the third Pirates of the Caribbean movie instead of either.

Today: today I try to do some programming. If I get it done, I'll announce to my boss that, yes, I want to interview. I think it's best to combine that with some accomplishment, however minor.

(For me, though, it's relatively major. This'll be the first weird SQL script I've tried to write. I'm trying to find out if our servers have been rebooted in the past 12 hours, and when. I'm going to do this by checking the login time of system process ID 1, and then determine previous restarts by dates on the SQL logs - with commentary that logs *do* roll over, so they need to be checked for false positives, just in case a log rolled over within the last 12 hours, and then SQL restarted more than once afterwards, which should be rare. This is better (lower false-positive potential) than the current system we're using.)

You can't just use uptime to look for reboots?

As for Caspian, it's a movie with lots of big pretty battles. If you like seeing big pretty battles on the big screen rather than at home, see it in the theater. If you don't care so much, wait for video.

Whoops, not reboots, restarts. (i.e., just SQL being cycled. Or, the server being rebooted.) This is especially pertinent because we have some servers that spontaneously cycle due to extreme memory pressures.

All else being equal, I'd rather see a big budget special effect filled movie on a big screen with lots of other people.

All else being equal, I'd rather see a big budget special effect filled movie on a big screen with lots of other people. <i.Iron Man</i> was a great experience, seeing it with a bunch of other folks who also wanted to see it early.

<i>Sweeney Todd</i> is definitely one to wait for DVD for me, I don't like blood, no matter how stylized. (In some ways, artsy blood is worse!)

From what I remember of Prince Caspian the book, there's not a lot I would miss by seeing it on DVD. I'm really just holding out for <i>Dawn Treader</i>.

The Hulk a few years ago got such bad reviews, I waited until it came out on some broadcast format, didn't even want to rent the DVD. But this Hulk sounds a lot better, I want to give it a big screen chance.

one scene I'm keen to see in the Narnia movie, just to see *how* they've done it, is the "Lucy sees the Trees wake up".

I saw both movies, and had a fun time at both of them. Neither were ground shaking Theatre, but they were a pleasant way to spend an afternoon. However, if you decide you don't care for them, there is nothing saying you can't walk out in the middle, no?

If it gets as hot up there tomorrow as it's supposed to be down here, then I recommend going to see the longest movie possible. (Me, I'm planning to venture out in the cool of the morning to hit the farmers' market and video store, get some water on the garden and then hang out down in the basement watching movies most of the day. But if I didn't have a cool basement, the movie theater would be my next choice.)

Hulk was quite good - a big improvement on the first one, which was ... a little hard for anyone other than a serious Comic Geek to access.

Haven't seen the new Narnia movie yet - it only opened tonight in the UK, so I'll be going with Hubby tomorrow night.

The OH likes to watch movies with me when it's both of our first times watching the movie, and he also needs captions or subtitles, so we watch most movies on DVD.

It frustrates me not to be able to see them in the theater when all my friends are talking about them, because I hate spoilers so I have to avoid those discussions.

Narnia did not feel like 2.33 hours to me. I thoroughly enjoyed it. ANd it's a "big screen" movie.

As opposed to the Indiana Jones movie that made me want to slash the screen to ribbons, scream, and run out of the theatre.
