I decided I'm not taking a cab to the airport on Saturday, I'm using long term parking instead. Why? Well, partly because a cab ride is $40 one way, so $80 both ways, and long term parking is about the same, and it means not panicking if the cab doesn't show up on Saturday morning.

But the biggest reason was that I saw this on the website of the cab company I was going to use:

* A 20% Gratuity will be added for your convenience (Industry standard).

For my convenience?

I wouldn't mind a 20% tip (I tend a bit higher, if I'm flush), but making it mandatory and lying about the reason it's being tacked on is too much.

Making it mandatory makes it a service charge, not a gratuity. Yes, too much!

That is ludicrous.

I'm sorry I didn't see this before the weekend (I assume you meant last Saturday)... I live about 2.5 miles from the airport, and you'd be welcome to park in front of my house any time you're flying. I'd give you a ride if I'm around, too; otherwise you'd still have to take a cab, but it'd only be about $10 each way.
