If I had magical powers, and could grant people the ability to do certain things to/for themselves, I'd grant people the ability to be proud of anything that made the world just a tiny bit better, even if it was only for themselves.

It's a self correcting thing, you know... if brushing your teeth isn't a big deal, you'll stop feeling proud for brushing your teeth soon enough. It's pretty hard to become a self-absorbed, conceited twit over successful toothbrushing, after all. And honestly, I think the number of times people refuse to feel proud over doing something "small" or "meaningless" outweighs the times people feel too proud over other things that actually make the world better.

In that vein, I feel justiifed to be proud that I cut up meat to make beef jerky. But, cutting up the beef isn't what impresses me. No, what impressed me is that I realized I needed to get it brining tonight, so I could put it in the smoker on Thursday, so I could dry it Thursday night and Friday, so it'd be ready before my trip to Oregon.

I actually planned to do something two days beforehand, and have things set up so I'm ready to carry out my plans.

Those of you scoffing at my accomplishment may feel free to do so... but you ain't getting any beef jerky, either, so there!

Hey, I'm proud of you!

And I'll be all grateful and stuff, too, if you manage to bring some of that jerky down here with you. (-:

That's actually an excellent idea. I would have a hard time taking pride in things that I do, it's a character flaw. But that's still a great thought to try and do IMO.
