New updates on LongHairedWeirdo. A warning: they are made after having discussed a rather disturbing letter to Dan Savage about a very ugly rape.

Oh Jesus. Now I have read your posts.

I cannot give you the kind of response I usually would, but I'm recovering from a horrific sexual triggering yesterday -- not anything my partner did, but he did understand and took good care of me while I pulled myself together. So forgive my lack of coherence and/or relevance.

You understand rape. And you use the word "enormity" correctly. Thank you.

I appreciate and agree with your comments. I wonder, though. It's easy to sympathize with this woman - I mean, she ended up in the hospital. She had to have surgery as a result of her attack. But what if she wasn't hurt at all? What if not a single drop of blood was shed? It would be just as much rape, but would we be as outraged? Would she even have written to Dan Savage in the first place? I doubt it, and that bothers me.

It bothers me, too, having talked to far too many women who were raped. I don't understand how hard it is to understand that "no means no".

Thank you, John - a kind of post like yours can go a long way in healing. I appreciate both the thoughtfulness and the anger.
