So...

I was hoping that I'd proudly be reporting that I've been asked to work (admittedly, as a contractor) for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and would not have to work for Volt again (admittedly, at a much more comfy position).

I can't say that. It turns out the Foundation isn't making the decision until next week.

I've told the recruiter at Volt that I can't make a decision... not when the Gates Foundation might want to move forward with me, and bring me in for a second interview.

On 9/11/2004, I made an oath, to myself and the universe, that I would do what I could to make the world a better place, insofar as I could. I have to be a DBA anyway, to pay the bills... if I could pay the bills and be part of a fine organization that's fighting disease, helping schools, and libraries, and more, well, it's not a difficult decision to make.

But I am at peace. What will be, will be. I am patient.

AS LONG AS THE FRIKKIN' UNIVERSE IS PRETTY DAMN QUICK AT MAKING UP ITS MIND!!!

(Just kidding. Really. I'm a bit nervous, but even more excited and hopeful.)

*hug*

Wanna see if the Internet will let us play Diablo sometime this weekend to take your mind off it?

Well, who knows what's going to happen?

Volt just called me to say, "you know, the reason the Gates Foundation has all its money is due to Microsoft, so working for Microsoft *is* making the world a better place."

I told him that was a fine rationalization, and if that's what I was interested in, I would have already taken the job with Accenture.

(Oh: did you know I'm selfish, looking at things from *my* perspective, not thinking of my poor maybe-boss-to-be trying to make up his team of qualified people? Horrid, selfish me!)

I've got to say, I'm ... amused ... that Volt is pursuing you so persistently, given recent history. Am I right in assuming their left hand is unaquainted with their right hand?

Well, love, they get paid if I get placed; if I don't get placed by them, they don't. And no matter how crappy my last job was, they didn't care, because they didn't have to... they still got paid.

At least I finally get yesterday's pun. I must be losing my touch. (-;

Oooh, Gates Foundation - nice. When you get the job, if Terry Inskeep still works there, tell her I said hi.

Will do. (I don't suppose she is (or at least was) a hiring manager, and you can put in a good word? Just kidding.)

(Unless she *IS* a hiring... no, no, no, I'm at peace and what will be, will be. :-) )

Not a hiring manager, as far as I know. The last I heard from Terry, she was working at the Gates Foundation, but that was six years ago - she may not still be there.

I think this is great! I hope it works out. And I definitely understand your not wanting to work for Volt again. Ignore the recruiter. They'll say anything.
