Yesterday was the first snow of the season! Well, just a light dusting - not even that, really, but definitely snow coming down!

So I decided to bring in my patio furniture.

Contrary to my prior belief, opening the basement door *does not* unlatch the doorknob lock.

And, you know, after having my house burgled, I've been *so* very good about locking all of my doors. And, wow, I never replaced the key in my key safe, either!

Sigh.

$200 to drill a lock. Not the worst I've seen.

Sigh indeed. $200 plus poor John standing out in the snow waiting for the locksmith :(

Ugh.

At least once upon a time, it was possible to get the locksmith to pick the lock rather than ruin it.

On the minus side, I was wearing a pair of gym shorts and a tee shirt, plus my wool slippers with leather bottoms. Not a good outfit for waiting outside.

On the plus side, my neighbor noticed me and let me stay inside to use the phone and wait for the locksmith.
