johnpalmerWell, just because my life hasn't quite been stressful enough, tonight I have a maintenance window on two of my machines at work. I am going to be adding some drives to one machine, and I don't know quite how to add them, because I have never had to add SCSI drives before. It should be easy enough, but I am three-quarters of the way to expecting that I will need new drive cables, Y splitters so I have enough power connectors, and so on.
The other machine is going to be really easy to upgrade, I imagine, except that all of the commands that I need to run on it are stored on my laptop for safekeeping. My laptop away to Columbus for MarCon, mostly because I didn't think of this before I told my wife that she could borrow the laptop while she was traveling. Just to make it even more fun, she also has the only working cellphone we have. That means that if something goes wrong, I'm going to have the devil of a time to get in touch with someone. All well, I knew the job was dangerous when I signed up for it.
Wish me luck, there are a dozen little things that can go wrong, and I am sincerely hoping that none of them do. I'm trying to make sure I plan things out carefully; I'm starting to become a big believer in the notion that 99 percent of good luck is careful planning. If nothing else, it does help prevent panic when you realize that you're at a crossroads that you hadn't thought about.
