Sep. 25th, 2005 09:44 pmNew updates on For The Dream and LongHairedWeirdo, both about the new prisoner abuse allegations.
For those of you who haven't heard, it's a captain and two seargents claiming widespread prisoner abuse... not just a few icky photographs, but what amounted to a matter of policy.
Of course, by believing that this is widespread, I'm shamelessly attacking our brave and noble soldiers, and believing wild, raving accusations from, uh... oh, right, our brave and noble soldiers. I'm sorry for that bit of levity, but that prisoner abuse has arisen as a direct result of the policies of the Bush administration is already a given, and he's been given a pass on it.
Last time, they investigated. Soldiers invoked their article 31 rights. They wouldn't give testimony because, if they admitted they knew about the abuse, and didn't act, they could be charged with a crime. Whether you believe the abuses happened, or were widespread or not, it should be obvious that such an investigation *can't* get the truth reliably.
This time, we need the truth. I don't think even the most partisan player can claim these issues can continue to be blown off in hopes that they blow over.
