I got jumped on for not knowing every detail of the database server, when no one told me anything about the thing.
So, when I was rebuilding it for the second time in the second week, I told my boss, I wanted ownership. It was mine; no one else was to flippin' touch it. To start, I wanted a list of jobs - just a list, the description could wait - that had to be moved.
No, no, no... path of least resistance; let's just get the database server built. We'll take care of that later.
Fast forward to today.
Some moron put a job in place that wiped out a huge amount of data; nearly two gigabytes worth.
You know, before I rebuilt that database server the first time, I mentioned the need for a build document.
Before I rebuilt it the second time, I'd jokingly mentioned that we should make sure we create our build document as we rebuilt it the first time.
We, of course, rebuilt it sans rebuild document each time.
This time, I said something really simple. The DBA should be in charge of the database server. No one should make changes without my knowing about them, and without my approval.
It's pretty flipping clear that someone is not listening.
