Nov. 19th, 2001 12:30 amIt's kind of funny how much stuff has been going on in my life, and how little of it I've actually gotten in here. Oh, I'm under no obligation to keep my live journal updated, sure... but I did want to get myself writing 'free form' a bit to keep from letting my writing muscles atrophy too much.
Good news: my knee problems seem (tentatively, and I'm still nervous as hell) to be a thing of the past. I've done workouts on the treadmill at relatively low speeds, without putting the grade up too high (treadmills can be raised up so it's like walking up a hill), but I've been having nearly no problem. (I have a couple of minor aches... but I think I've felt the same or worse in my 'good' leg. I'm writing that off to the vagaries of exercise)
I never thought I'd be tickled with 40 minutes on a treadmill at 2.9 miles an hour, with the height set to 4 out of 15, but it's approximately 2,356 times better than 0 minutes on a treadmill at any speed.
Another piece of good news is that, now that I've started exercising, and reading while exercising, I'm finding thinking about programming to be fun again. Since I want to become a programmer, this is crucial... if something isn't fun, I might as well give up on the thoughts of persuing it full speed.
Now, for bad news... boy, is that easy to think about. Like, how about... When the hell do I find out when the hell I'm moving to Seattle, and what I'm doing in the meantime?
Look I can understand "we don't know when to move you". But I can't understand "we don't know when to move you, we don't know what you'll do, but you have to do *SOMETHING* to get paid in the meantime, and we still haven't figured out Cost of Living adjustments yet."
Okay... yes, I know, "Corporate America, and caring about playing with other people's lives: See Invisible Pink Unicorns and other nonexistent foolishness." That'd be fine if they were dumping us, but they want us to DO things for them. Like, keep them from having to ship people around to understaffed data centers! You think that'd be worth something.
Other news: It looks like I might be a night worker again, which kind of bothers me. I was looking forward to going to days. Maybe they'll need someone to temp in San Jose or LA, who can work days. However, the good news is that having the cost of living raise, and night incentive, will put me back to making what I used to be making, before they cut overtime out of the picture.
Oh, yeah... and finally: packing. What packing? Yeah, that's right. It's time to start putting my life into boxes. See you all around!
