Spirit journey on the equinox

Yesterday night was a funny one; I worked from home, but I still didn't leave for the gym until nearly 7, meaning that, with food shopping, cooking, and cleaning to do, I'd have little time for my equinox ritual.
Nevertheless, when you've been meditating a great deal and learning more about your mind, it *is* possible to rush a spirit journey... well, at least a little.
After making a cheese stuffed meatloaf and putting it in the oven, I smudged the area with sage, and sat down. Rather than stepping into the river, and letting it carry me, I dove in, and swam it, and jogged down the path to the World Tree, which is the root for my journeying. I quickly gave thanks and gifts to my spirit animals, and had a feeling that Raven wanted to hand me off to Cat. I was right - and I assure you, this was not influenced by Chibi and Skitty jumping onto the couch to snuggle close (though I'm not as sure that the reverse isn't true).
Cat reached out to me and helped me shapeshift. We went running off. Eventually, I found myself a mouse, and had to try pouncing. I gave the mouse a good scare, and probably made it more alert for the next cat spirit to come by (if it's still a mouse, that is), but I wasn't going to hurt it; I wasn't hungry and while cats can be cruel, I was only wearing the shape of a cat. Even if I was a true cat, I don't think cats are needlessly cruel; they follow their natures, and my nature was not the tormenting of small animals.
But I don't think I'd have been as much Cat as I needed to be if I hadn't done a quick pounce and grab.
We kept running, and I found a hole in the earth. It was giving off smoke, and I knew that it was about Fire, the primal element. I sat by it, warming myself, but that wasn't enough, so, after some consideration, I dove in.
And then I was Fire, and I flew free as fire, finally merging with the sun. And I realized that, for all of Fire's power, and passion, it is curiously limited. It can only burn where there is fuel and air; it can cause great damage, but it can't control the result of it. And even the sun, which represents the power of the god, and is the source of life on earth, can not control what happens with its energy.
Fire warms and comforts, and can be passionate and powerful and even destructive... but its control is sorely limited. Just like the most powerful of humans, when you think about it.
I'm hoping to walk the path of the healer, but no healer heals; *people* heal. The healer can only help make conditions right. The healer can kindle the flame, and re-light it if necessary, but if there's no fuel, no air, or if the fuel is too wet, nothing will happen. The healer can be a guide, like a candle, or even a lighthouse, but someone must walk (or steer the ship) in accordance with the light.
I then came back to the earth, and felt the warmth of fire that is controlled, and guided to provide comfort.
I gave thanks to the god and goddess, and to the guardians of my circle, and feasted.
Yes, cheese stuffed meatloaf is a feast, especially for a body still hungry from a workout.
