Devices for writing on the go...

So... do you do any writing while wandering? Do you, or does someone you know, need a portable writing device?

I have two. One's a NEC Mobile Pro 780 - a PDA with a nearly full sized keyboard. It's cramped, but if you have small fingers and good eyes, it works nicely. Free to a good home, and I have a flash memory chip I can include with it, so you can transfer writings to a PC with a flash reader. There might (or might not) be a cable to allow you to sync to a PC.. no promises I can find it, no promises it works.

The other is a Handspring Visor with a Stowaway keyboard. This is a full-sized laptop keyboard that folds and unfolds for you. It includes a vibrating alarm/flash memory module, and connector cradle to sync to a PC.

I hate to throw them away, but I'm not using them and someone should if they want to.

Good news... kinda.

So... I think that, next Wednesday, there's a really good chance I'll be offered a job.

Why is this only "kinda" good news?

The job looks good, they were promising flexible time, when they heard I want to go back to school in a year, they were throwing out suggestions for how it could work out ("you could take daytime classes and work at night"). The job is honorable - it's a company providing a valuable software service, and my part will be helping convert data, and other duties as required. It's a small company, it's doing very well, and it could be very rewarding financially.

It sounds like it might even be a kind of job where I could buy wireless internet - there's a provider promising 1.5megabit speeds all along the road from Seattle to Albany - and work on the train while traveling to visit kightp.

So, why is it only kinda-good?

Well... Oregon State University needs a well rounded geek as well. If I got a job offer there, I was going to move in with Pat. I was also planning to move in, temporarily (at least) at the end of this month, due to issues regarding my apartment (including the hell mouth, dimensional portals, peeling paint, dampness, battles for the fate of the universe - do you know how hard it is to sleep through one of those, even when it doesn't directly involve you?), and hey, free rent while on unemployment.

But OSU hasn't so much as scheduled interviews yet.

And part of me likes the potential of this job, while part of me is freaked out about a lost opportunity.

So, I'm trying to play it by assuming that whatever happens happens for the best, and seeing where it takes me.
